Immunomodulatory activity of dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors in immune-related diseases
(Wiley, 2023) Drakul, Marija; Čolić, Miodrag
Dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4), also known as CD26, is a 110-kDa cell surface glycoprotein with enzymatic and signal transducing activity. DPP-4/CD26 is expressed by various cells, including CD4+ and CD8+ T cells, B cells, dendritic cells, macrophages, and NK cells. DPP-4 inhibitors (DPP-4i) were introduced to clinics in 2006 as new oral antihyperglycemic drugs approved for type 2 diabetes mellitus treatment. In addition to glucose-lowering effects, emerging data, from clinical studies and their animal models, suggest that DPP-4i could display anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects as well, but the molecular and immunological mechanisms of these actions are insufficiently investigated. This review focuses on the modulatory activity of DPP-4i in the immune system and the possible application of DPP-4i in other immune-related diseases in patients with or without diabetes.

Power definitions for three-phase systems in terms of instantaneous symmetrical components
(Elsevier, 2023) Mikulović, Jovan; Šekara, Tomislav; Forcan, Miodrag
This paper considers power definitions for three-phase power systems with non-sinusoidal and unbalanced voltages and currents. By applying the Lyon transformation to three-phase voltages and currents, instantaneous symmetrical components are obtained and used to define powers. Definitions of instantaneous apparent and reactive powers are derived, as well as definitions of wellknown quantities based on rms values, such as apparent and reactive powers. The introduced set of power definitions based on the same mathematical framework could be used for time-instantaneous and time-average compensation. To provide correct calculation of powers for unbalanced three-phase four-wire systems, all wires and related quantities of the three-phase four-wire system are treated equally. The instantaneous apparent and reactive powers are also expressed in terms of instantaneous symmetrical components derived from the Clarke transformation. The proposed definitions are compared with other power definitions. In the case of a three-phase three-wire system, the proposed definitions give the same values of powers as the most known power definitions. In the case of a three-phase four-wire system, the proposed definitions give the same value of the apparent power as the DIN 40110 Standard and the same value of reactive power as the Currents' Physical Component theory. © 2017 Elsevier Inc. ASSESSMENT OF SEXUAL BEHAVIOR AND HABITS OF MEDICAL AND NON-MEDICAL STUDENTS
(University of Kragujevac, Faculty of Medical Sciences, Kragujevac, Serbia, 2023) Subotic, Slobodan; Jakovljevic, Biljana; Radulovic, Danijela; Simic Vukomanovic, Ivana; Vukomanovic, Vladimir
The aim of this study is the assessment of sexual behavior and habits of medical and non-medical students in Belgrade. The research is designed as cross-sectional study conducted in the period from November until January 2016/2017. An anonymous and standardized questionnaire from the “National Health Survey” research protocol was used and variables of interest were added. A total of 1268 randomly selected students participated, from higher education institutions in Belgrade (College for Health Studies “Milutin Milankovic, Medical College of applied sciences in Zemun, Belgrade, Business Academy and Faculty of Security Studies in Belgrade). Results: Respondents from both groups almost had sexual relations with the opposite sex, although 2.2% of students of medical profession and 1.7% of nonmedical profession had sexual relations with the same sex. Condoms are most often contraceptive measures used in both groups, (>40%). The most common reason for not using condom in both groups were partner's trust or reducing pleasure during intercourse (p<0.005 and p<0.851 respectively). Students of non-medical professions comparing to students of medical professions, on the second year of study (7.3% vs 5.5%), and on the third year of study (14.1% vs 2.4%) stated that the reason for not using a condom is the high cost. Conclusions: According to the obtained results, students of medical professions were prone to risky sexual behaviour, despite greater knowledge about reproductive health and risky sexual behaviors. There is a significant need for an evaluation of educational programs about sexual and reproductive health of students from all orientations.

Consumer attitudes and preferences toward traditional meat products in the autonomous province of Vojvodina
(2023) Peulić, Tatjana; Ikonić, Predrag; Delić, Jovana; Kalenjuk Pivarski, Bojana; Maravić, Nikola; Marić, Aleksandar; Novaković, Aleksandra
The purposes of this survey were to identify consumer attitudes and preferences toward special groups of traditional food products and to identify the position of meat products among traditional food products. An online questionnaire surveyed 540 respondents in the autonomous province of Vojvodina, Serbia. The questionnaire was divided into two parts: 1) socio‑demographic characteristics and 2) consumer attitudes and preferences toward traditional food products and the position of meat products within these foods. Traditional food products that were reported as mostly consumed in Vojvodina are meat and meat products (85.4%), milk and milk products (65.1%), honey (64.5%) and products from fruit and vegetables (53%). Dry fermented sausages are the most prevalent group among traditional meat products (57.3%), followed by dry cured meat products (23.6%) and bacon (9.9%). Five of sixteen selected meat products that are consumed in Vojvodina were registered as Geographical Indication (GI) labelled product in the Intellectual Property Office of the Republic of Serbia. All registered GI products belonged to the group of dry fermented sausages

Influence of suspension heating rate on properties of zeolite 13X
(Association of the Chemical Engineers of Serbia, 2023) Janković, Mladen B.; Perušić, Mitar D.; Damjanović, Vladimir M.; Filipović, Radislav Lj.; Obrenović, Zoran B.; Tadić, Goran S.; Kostić, Duško D.
It is known that the temperature of crystallization during the synthesis of zeolite is one of the most important process parameters. However, during the research work on the synthesis of zeolite 13X and the introduction of this material into regular industrial production, it was noticed that the heating rate of the starting reaction suspension can have an equally important influence. This influence can be so pronounced that a difference of just a few minutes in reaching the crystallization temperature can make a significant difference in product quality, affect the presence of other phases in the crystal, or even determine the direction of zeolite crystallization. Therefore, the aim of this work was to show the influence of the heating rate on the quality of the obtained 13X zeolite powders. The obtained samples were analysed in terms of crystallinity (by X-ray diffraction), chemical composition, granulometry and specific surface area (by Brunauer-Emmett-Teller analysis), and regarding water and CO2 adsorption capacities. Additionally, scanning electron microscopy analysis of the samples showed the morphological characteristics of different 13X zeolite powders. The analysis results of the obtained powders confirmed the influence of the heating rate and helped to define the optimal synthesis parameters i.e. the initial temperature and heating time, that resulted in stable product quality.
