dc.description.abstractOil refineries are complex process plants that produce products from crude oil that have been applied in all areas of human activity. For the needs of the production process in the refineries, a relatively large amount of the heat energy is consumed. One of the basic priorities of modern production in refineries is the optimization of the heat energy consumption. The paper presents which processes and plants are the largest consumers of the heat energy as well as where are the greatest heat losses in refineries. Also, the potentials for improving the utilization of the heat energy are considered comprehensively. The largest possibilities for reducing of the heat energy losses are in steam boilers, process furnaces and heaters, distillation processes, water vapor distribution, etc.
