Surface quality is one of the main characteristics of a product and manufacturing process. In milling, there are two possible ways a tool moves relative to the movement of the workpiece – up and down milling. This paper investigates the effect of milling direction on surface quality and shows that the effect is independent of quality in terms of the arithmetic average of the roughness profile – Ra.
